Dorman scores only goal at Tannadice

Andy Dorman's composed finish secured St Mirren a place in the Scottish Cup quarter-finals after a 1-0 win at Dundee United. The midfielder, who only joined the club last month, pounced early in the second half at Tannadice to set up a last eight trip to St Johnstone. St Mirren could have been in front after just 10 seconds but for Christan Kalvenes' timely challenge on Craig Dargo, who is still awaiting his first goal for the club. Dargo should have put the visitors ahead on 17 minutes only to roll the ball across the face of goal after United keeper Lukasz Zaluska's horrendous error. Zaliuka's attempts to prevent the ball going out for a corner merely gifted a gilt-edged chance to Dargo, who was unable to steer his shot into the beckoning net. At the opposite end, Noel Hunt saw his shot deflected wide of the target after St Mirren keeper Mark Howard had failed to collect Craig Conway's free-kick. Hunt then curled a free-kick over the wall and narrowly wide before United closed the half with Conway thumping a shot straight at Howard. The Buddies grabbed the decisive goal three minutes into the second half when Dargo, fractionally offside, cleverly glanced the ball on for the onrushing Dorman to flick past Zaluska. United's response was positive with Mark de Vries rising powerfully to set up Hunt, only for the striker to be denied by the legs of Howard. Willo Flood's deep cross caused panic in the visiting box midway through the second half when Howard dropped the ball, but his error went unpunished as De Vries hooked wide. Howard produced a fingertip save to deny Hunt an acrobatic equaliser and the former Dunfermline forward then failed to connect cleanly with Kalvenes' free-kick as St Mirren hung on.
