England Women re-affirmed their credentials as potential winners of Euro 2017 as Jodie Taylor scored a hat-trick in a 6-0 thrashing of Scotland in Utrecht.
Taylor scored from a simple through ball and quickly added a second after Scotland failed to clear from a free kick to put Mark Sampson's team in command.
Ellen White smacked in a third on the rebound for England after Jill Scott had hit the bar from a long-range strike as the tournament debutants wilted in the face of their opponents' class.
Taylor completed her hat-trick shortly after half-time before England's star player Jordan Nobbs volleyed into the top corner following a poor clearance and Toni Duggan flicked in from a corner, as England warmed up for a probable Group D decider against Spain on Sunday.
Scotland started brightly with some good possession but fell behind on 10 minutes when Taylor stole in behind the defence and slotted a calm shot past Gemma Fay who was making her 201st appearance in goal for Scotland.
The tournament debutants came into the game having fallen behind and put England under pressure from set plays, whilst full-back Fiona Brown linked up well with Lisa Evans down Scotland's right to create some moments of aerial danger.
But any hope of getting back into the game was quickly wiped out by two goals in five minutes, the first coming after Taylor followed up on a Lucy Bronze shot which was cleared off the line before White crashed the ball into the bottom corner following up on Scott's long-range effort as it came back off the bar.
England captain Steph Houghton floated a superb long ball for Taylor to beat Scotland centre-back Ifeoma Dieke to the bounce and clip past Fay for her hat-trick shortly after the break, before Scotland rallied with a strong piece of running from substitute Lana Clelland who held off Houghton and shot into the side netting.
Substitute Duggan replaced Taylor for England and went close latching onto the end of a Bronze through ball, before Nobbs got her reward for a stylish display by volleying home when Scotland failed to clear a Karen Carney cross.
Barcelona forward Duggan headed home from a corner in stoppage time as England sent out a message to their Euro 2017 rivals ahead of their clash with Spain in Breda on Sunday.
In Doetinchem, first-half goals from Vicky Losada and Amanda Sampedro handed Spain a convincing 2-0 win against Euro newcomers Portugal in Group D.
Losada opened the score on 23 minutes after a long pass from Andrea Pereira and the Barcelona midfielder slammed the ball past the helpless keeper Patricia Morais.
Atletico's Sampedro made it 2-0 three minutes before half-time, heading in a cross from Mariona Caldentey.
Player of the Match: Jodie Taylor
England needed a goalscorer coming into these championships and in Taylor they've found it. Hers was the first hat-trick scored by an England player in the finals of the European Championships and her incisive movement and finishing was every bit deserving of her three-goal haul.
England move on to play Spain in Breda on Sunday, whilst Scotland face fellow debutants Portugal in Rotterdam.
