Referee Andy D'Urso reversed a decision to award a late penalty as Exeter and Morecambe played to a 1-1 draw at St James Park.
The Grecians seemed to have the chance to win the game when David Wheeler was felled in the box and D'Urso's decision led to a melee between both sets of players. As D'Urso sorted out the carnage, Jamie Devitt was sent off and with John O'Flynn waiting to take the penalty, the referee changed his mind and awarded Morecambe a free-kick instead. Exeter had made a blistering start to the game and were 1-0 up within two minutes. Eliot Richards, making his full Exeter debut, crossed from the right and found Tom Nichols. He played a neat one-two with Liam Sercombe before smashing the ball past Barry Roche. Exeter made all the early running and should have added to their tally but Arron Davies and Richards missed decent chances. The Shrimps were much improved after the break and levelled after 54 minutes when Andrew Fleming's pass went straight through the Exeter defence for Padraig Amond to run onto and score the equaliser.
