Exeter 0-1 Tranmere: James Norwood strikes against former employers
Saturday 2 March 2019 19:59, UK
James Norwood struck the only goal of the game to give Tranmere a 1-0 victory against former club Exeter in Sky Bet League Two.
Norwood, who had never scored in his two years at Exeter, returned to St James Park to net his 25th goal of the season and maintain Rovers' hopes of a play-off push.
Tranmere started the better of the two teams and after a frantic goalmouth scramble, David Perkins could drag a shot wide.
Exeter barely created a chance and it was no surprise when Tranmere went in front in the 31st minute.
A long ball over the top found Norwood, with his eventual shot taking a wicked deflection off Pierce Sweeney before creeping past Christy Pym and finding the net.
Exeter, who had been poor in the first half, qt least looked more lively after the break. Randell Williams fired straight at Scott Davies and substitute Jonathan Forte glanced just over from a Lee Holmes cross.
Forte and then Hiram Boateng, in stoppage time, were both denied by Davies as Exeter were unable to find the elusive equalising goal.
