Dundee United win 1-0 to move to within two points of Hearts

Dundee United boosted their European hopes with a 1-0 victory over struggling Falkirk. Craig Levein's side had failed to win any of their previous four SPL fixtures but they were quickly into their stride and took the lead in the 27th minute thanks to a Craig Conway penalty. Thomas Scobbie had appeared to be under little pressure when he handled Paul Dixon's deep cross and Conway made no mistake as he tucked his spot-kick past Dani Mallo. Conway almost made it 2-0 on the stroke of half-time after sharp interplay between Paul Caddis and Robertson had sent him clear, but Mallo came to Falkirk's rescue with a smart save. Falkirk brought on striker Mark Stewart for midfielder Arnau Riera as they switched to a 4-3-3 formation but United continued to look the more dangerous team after the interval. Paul Caddis headed straight at Mallo from Conway's cross after a poor piece of defending from the home side. Falkirk finally started to carve out some chances in the closing stages, with Lee Bullen testing Lukasz Zaluska and Mark Stewart heading just wide. However, United held on to climb to within two points of third-placed Hearts and leave Falkirk just two points above bottom club Inverness.
