RB Leipzig missed the chance to close the gap to Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich to two points after they drew 2-2 at Augsburg on Friday.
The hosts took a surprise lead after 19 minutes when former Fulham left-back Konstantinos Stafylidis crashed a drive into the top corner.
But four minutes later, Leipzig broke to the other end and equalised when Naby Keita found Timo Werner free in the area to drill home.
Augsburg had an opportunity to retake the lead before half-time but Kevin Danso headed a Stafylidis free-kick over the crossbar.
Instead Marvin Compper edged Leipzig ahead seven minutes into the second half with a header from Emil Forsberg's corner.
But Martin Hinteregger hauled Augsburg level on the hour mark when he finished off a box-to-box move with a neat finish.
Stafylidis almost won it for the hosts at the death but his angled shot came back off a post.
Bayern Munich travel to Cologne on Saturday.
