Genoa avoided a third straight defeat as they claimed a 1-1 draw against Udinese at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris.

Sebastian De Maio put hosts Genoa in front, but Cyril Thereau levelled midway through the second half to earn a point for Andrea Stramaccioni's side.

The first-half was a hard-fought affair as both sides tried to gain an advantage, but it was De Maio who made the break-through for the home side in the 19th minute.

Eight minutes after Diego Perotti curled a free-kick against the bar, Tino Costa sent in a wonderful cross for De Maio to score first time.

Udinese responded with a couple of chances, coming very close to equalising in the 21st minute when Silvan Widmer broke into the area from the right and let fly with a powerful shoot that Eugenio Lamanna parried.

Stipe Perica was unable to convert the rebound, shooting straight at the goalkeeper, before the ball then ended up back at Widmer's feet before it was finally diverted behind by the keeper.

Udinese had another good chance in the 42nd minute when Widmer teed up Giampiero Pinzi, who was tackled by Zakarya Bergdich. Ivan Piris then got a shot away, but it flew just wide.

Genoa had a goal ruled out in the 58th minute as Bergdich tucked the ball home after Marco Borriello went to ground after a tussle with Molla Wague. The goal was disallowed for a foul by Borriello.

And Udinese earned themselves a point 10 minutes later as Thereau tapped home following Guilherme's diving header from Widmer's low cross from the right.
