Ronaldo and Higuain do the damage in local derby

Real Madrid claimed a 4-2 derby success over Getafe to move back to the top of the Primera Liga. The convincing victory over their city rivals on Thursday edges them to the summit on goal difference. It took just 13 minutes for Real to take the lead at Coliseum Alfonso Perez, with Cristiano Ronaldo firing in a trademark free-kick. In-form Argentine frontman Gonzalo Higuain then doubled their advantage seven minutes later, firing low into the bottom corner. The South American hot-shot took his tally for the season to 22 on 23 minutes, drilling home after latching onto a Fernando Gago through-ball.

Flying

Real were flying at this point and put the result beyond doubt when Ronaldo grabbed his second of the night on 37 minutes. Daniel Parejo, once of Real, pulled one back for the home side inside 60 seconds, with Iker Casillas left uncharacteristically stranded outside his area. Real were happy to take their foot off the gas after the interval, as they cruised to victory, and allowed Getafe to grab a second when Pedro Leon pounced on a loose ball to finish from close range. It was a forgettable night for the hosts, though, and their misery was compounded in stoppage time when coach Michel, a former Real favourite, was ordered from the bench for protesting a decision.
