Late heartbreak for Darlington as Gillingham triumph

A stoppage-time penalty from Simeon Jackson maintained Gillingham's promotion push as they beat cash-strapped Darlington 1-0. Jackson slotted home his 16th goal of the season to give the home side their fourth win in five matches after Alan White handled in the box. The Quakers threatened early on when winger Adam Griffin met David Poole's cross on the volley but his powerful strike missed the target. Ten minutes before the break, Gills midfielder Curtis Weston found himself in space and let fly from fully 30 yards but his effort flew just past the post. After the interval a controversial decision from referee Steve Bratt angered the home faithful when he blew for a foul on Weston just as Mark McCammon toe-poked home. The Gills pushed for the winner but Andy Oakes thwarted Adam Miller and Southall before Jackson's penalty sealed the win.
