Danny Kedwell's injury-time penalty handed Gillingham, who nearly threw a two-goal lead, a 4-3 victory against Northampton.
Striker Jo Kuffour bagged a first-half hat-trick for the Gills in Saturday's League Two clash at Priestfield, with the Cobblers replying through Saido Berahino. But Northampton responded through Kelvin Langmead and Berahino's second before Gillingham were awarded a second penalty, which Kedwell converted. Kuffour opened the scoring on 10 minutes when he volleyed in Matt Lawrence's right-wing cross before doubling the lead on the half-hour mark with a backheeled finish. The Cobblers pulled one back when Berahino fired in from 25 yards but, in first-half injury time, Gillingham were awarded a penalty for a foul on Kuffour, who made no mistake from the spot. Kuffour wasted a chance for a fourth after the break before Langmead reduced the deficit with a superb angled finish on 54 minutes. And five minutes later the visitors snatched an improbable equaliser from a well-worked free-kick routine which Berahino lashed in. But in the dying moments Frank Nouble was bundled over and Kedwell took the responsibility to give Gillingham three valuable points.
