Late Shrews show denies Gillingham the points

A late double from Grant Holt rescued a 2-2 draw for Shrewsbury and denied Gillingham a spot in the automatic promotion places. Goals from Curtis Weston and Nicky Southall appeared to have given the in-form Gills their third consecutive win before Holt's intervention. Looking to avenge their 7-0 humiliation at the hands of Shrewsbury earlier in the season, the Gills started emphatically with a Weston thunderbolt that gave keeper Luke Daniels no chance inside three minutes. Just after the break, Simeon Jackson set up Southall with a clever back heel and the veteran midfielder kept his composure to slot home his third goal of the campaign. The Shrews were given a lifeline after 76 minutes when Barry Fuller was adjudged to have barged Moses Ashikodi over in the box and Holt sent Simon Royce the wrong way with his spot kick. And in the last minute the comeback was complete for the visitors when the league's top scorer rose highest to head home Chris Humphrey's cross.
