Billy Clarke and Ricky Ravenhill eased the Quakers ahead with Grimsby pulling one back from Jon-Paul Kalala
The defeat took Grimsby's winless run in the league to 22 games.
Darlington went ahead with a cheeky piece of play from Clarke. The striker's cross from the left was cleared to Rob Purdie whose wayward shot was going wide until a backheel from Clarke saw it beat Phil Barnes in the Grimsby goal.
The second goal was a stunner from ex-Grimsby man Ravenhill. Matt Heywood cleared a corner to the midfielder who volleyed a superb effort into the top corner from the edge of the box.
Grimsby improved after the break and their pressure paid off with a goal from on-loan midfielder Kalala.
A Nick Hegarty corner was cleared to the edge of the box from where Kalala hit an unstoppable shot into the bottom left-hand corner.
