Highlights of the Carabao Cup game between Grimsby and Derby.

Derby set up a Carabao Cup second-round meeting with Barnsley after beating 10-man Grimsby Town 1-0 at Blundell Park.

Matej Vydra opened the scoring from the penalty spot after 53 minutes and his goal proved enough as the first-round tie was completed at the second attempt.

Former Rams defender Ben Davies was later given his marching orders against his old club as the home side received their fourth red card in as many games this season.

Chances were few and far between in the opening 45 minutes, but chances from Paul Dixon and James Berrett - for Town - highlighted that their Championship visitors were not going to have it all their own way.

Derby had, of course, taken the lead two weeks ago through a Richard Keogh header, before the heavens opened and forced the game to be abandoned. But they had to wait until 53 minutes this time around.

Nathan Clarke was at fault for Grimsby as he brought down Vydra before the frontman dusted himself down to blast the resulting spot-kick past home goalkeeper James McKeown.

Davies was dismissed for a late challenge 10 minutes later - his second bookable offence - and it was one-way traffic from that moment on.

Tom Lawrence sliced wide when presented with a golden chance, while Ikechi Anya came off the bench and also passed up a good opportunity.

It did not matter, though, as Town failed to find a way back into the game, meaning they have now been eliminated from the competition by Derby for the second season running.

Derby now head to Barnsley next Tuesday night.
