Keeper frustrates Dale
Phil Barnes earned Grimsby a point with a string of fine saves in the goalless draw against a dominant Rochdale.
Last year's losing play-off finalists Dale found the Grimsby number one in unbeatable form as he produced a stunning save to claw away striker Chris Dagnall's 56th-minute shot from just eight yards out.
Dagnall then met a Simon Ramsden cross but his close-range header was well held by the keeper.
Barnes went on to keep out two efforts from Adam Rundle with the front-man then firing into the side netting late in the game.
Grimsby rarely threatened the Dale goal and their best chance came when Martin Butler latched onto a short backpass only for his effort to be tipped around the post by keeper Sam Russell.
