Late substitute secures win for play-off chasers

Northampton moved to within three points of the League One play-offs with a victory at Hartlepool, in a game that will be remembered for some calamitous goalkeeping. A gale that blew across Victoria Park did little for the entertainment as the two play-off hopefuls slugged out an encounter that was instantly forgettable. Long balls were the order of the day as head tennis ensued for large periods and with chances at a premium, Northampton's Poul Hubertz squandered the best chance of the first half when he blazed wildly over from 12 yards. The game improved slightly in the second period and the majority of the chances fell to the home side, with Richie Humphreys and Richie Barker both guilty of leaving their shooting boots in the changing room. It was left to Town substitute Giles Coke to steal the headlines in the most fortuitous of circumstances. A speculative effort from 20-yards lacked any conviction; yet still managed to squirm under Jan Budtz to hand the Cobblers a three-point haul with just eight minutes remaining.
