Rock-bottom Tranmere fight back three times to earn draw

Rock-bottom Tranmere equalised three times to earn a 3-3 draw and a precious point at Huddersfield. Substitute Michael Ricketts scored the third equaliser with his first touch after coming off the bench in the 85th minute. The one-time England international nudged the ball over the line from close range after Huddersfield failed to clear a corner. It looked as if former Rovers skipper Antony Kay had won the match for the Terriers with a close-range finish eight minutes from time, but for the third time on the night Huddersfield shipped an equaliser almost immediately after going in front.

Early opener

Lee Novak had given the hosts a sixth-minute lead with a blistering near-post drive but Tranmere levelled just 90 seconds later. Rovers striker Terry Gornell beat Town left-back Robbie Williams to fire in a powerful shot, and although goalkeeper Alex Smithies did well to parry, Tranmere captain Ian Thomas-Moore was on hand to smash in the rebound. Michael Collins thumped Huddersfield back in front on 58 minutes but again the lead lasted barely a minute as Williams allowed Craig Curran to get past him down the left and drill home a powerful shot for his first league goal of the season. Ricketts levelled again late on to secure a point and although Rovers remain bottom, they have now drawn level on points with Stockport and Wycombe.
