Aberdeen blew the chance to move level on points with Celtic at the top of the Scottish Premiership after suffering a 3-1 defeat to Inverness Caledonian Thistle at Caledonian Stadium on Monday.
Adam Rooney (7) opened the scoring for the Dons with his 19th goal of the season, only for Iain Vigurs (18) to restore parity shortly afterwards.
Greg Tansey, who turned down a deadline day move to Aberdeen, put Inverness in front for the first time in the match from the penalty spot (51), before Carl Tremarco (65) rounded off the scoring for the home side.
The defeat leaves Aberdeen three points adrift of Celtic, with Derek McInnes' side having played a game more than the current league leaders.
Inverness move above St Johnstone and into the top six on goal difference.
Aberdeen started the better of the sides and were rewarded for their early endeavour when Rooney rifled his low shot past Owain Fon Williams following good work from Craig Storie.
However, the away side failed to hold on to their early advantage as Vigurs calmly slotted his effort beyond Scott Brown after capitalising on a poor defensive mistake from Ash Taylor.
Simon Church came close to restoring Aberdeen's lead shortly before half-time, but some last-ditch defending from Gary Warren prevented him getting his header on target.
Taylor, at fault for Inverness' equaliser, was once again culpable as Caley took the lead just after the interval.
The centre-back's wild challenge on Ross Draper left referee William Collum with no option but to award a penalty and Tansey was on hand to convert from 12 yards.
Tremarco then put the result beyond any doubt by scoring his first goal for Inverness, although there was a hint of controversy with his header initially chalked off by the linesman for offside.
But after consulting with the linesman, Collum awarded the goal after rightly adjudging that the delivery from the right had been headed on by Taylor, enabling Tremarco to nod home despite standing in an offside position.
