Celtic throw away chance to move clear

Ten-man Inverness came from two goals down to shock league leaders Celtic at the Tulloch Caledonian Stadium. A John Rankin penalty, a David Proctor header and a David Cowie strike saw the home side cancel out two Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink goals and halt the Bhoys' hopes of going five points ahead at the top of the Scottish Premier League. Celtic dominated from the start as Scott Brown and Aiden McGeady were particularly influential. And Gordon Strachan's league leaders had their deserved lead on 24 minutes when Vennegoor of Hesselink headed in a well-worked free-kick from Paul Hartley.

      Lifeline

Seventy four seconds later Celtic had their second as McGeady committed Proctor and Cowie to drive at goal and the ball picked up the slightest of deflections off Vennegoor of Hesselink to sneak in. However, Inverness then had a lifeline when Steven Pressley was adjudged to have obstructed Marius Niculae inside the 18-yard area on 42 minutes and Rankin promptly drilled home from the penalty spot. The goal prior to the interval proved crucial for Inverness as they came storming back to stun their visitors in the second half. First Proctor headed in a 57th minute corner from Cowie to restore parity as Inverness enjoyed the edge.
      Drama
Cowie then scored the goal, which proved to be the winner, four minutes later as he latched onto a long ball from Richard Hastings to prod home after poor defending from Pressley and Stephen McManus. However, that was not to be the end of the drama as referee Alan Freeland adjudged Proctor to have brought down Scott McDonald when through on goal on 68 minutes and he showed the Inverness man a straight red card. Celtic then pummelled the Inverness goal but when McManus had a header excellently tipped wide by goalkeeper Mike Fraser, Strachan's men knew it was not to be their day.
