West Yorkshire club keep up play-off chase

Substitutes Jermaine Beckford and Jonny Howson struck a blow to Peterborough's hopes of automatic promotion as Leeds secured a 3-1 win at Elland Road. Leeds crashed to a 2-0 defeat in the reverse fixture back in October, but vengeance was sealed with the return from injury of star striker Jermaine Beckford. Beckford, who had not played since 28th December, scored in the 62nd and 71st minutes to take his season's tally to 21, while Howson added Leeds' third in injury-time. Craig Mackail-Smith netted his 19th goal of the season with 10 minutes left, but it wasn't enough as Leeds turned on the style.

Stalemate opening

Leeds goalkeeper Casper Ankergren and his Peterborough counterpart Joe Lewis kept the first half goalless with spectacular saves before Beckford transformed the match from the bench in the 58th minute. Firstly, he slotted home a rebound after Lewis had parried Bradley Johnson's free-kick, before the 25-year-old then brilliantly deceived Craig Morgan to fire into the bottom-right corner for his second. Mackail-Smith got Peterborough back in the game by converting George Boyd's rebounded header off the bar, but Robert Snodgrass fed in fellow substitute Howson to seal the win for the home side.
