Bayer Leverkusen v Tottenham preview: Spurs without Toby Alderweireld
Tuesday 18 October 2016 18:49, UK
Tottenham will be without key defender Toby Alderweireld as they continue their Champions League campaign away at Bayer Leverkusen on Tuesday night.
Spurs started off their European adventure this season with a 2-1 home defeat by Monaco, but bounced back to win 1-0 at CSKA Moscow last time out.
However, manager Mauricio Pochettino believes that they can cope without Alderweireld. He said: "We believe it is not a big issue.
"Now we have to wait for the result of the scan, which he took this afternoon. Everyone else is okay. We are only missing Harry Kane.
"The next two games, here and Wembley, will decide the possibility to go to the next round. It's important that we win.
"We want to go to the next round, so it's key to take the three points, then to play at Wembley in the same way."
Team news
Aside from Alderweireld and the injured Kane, Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino has a full squad to select from for the trip to Germany. Eric Dier came off the bench to replace Alderweireld after the Belgian picked up his injury against West Brom on Saturday, and he could fill in at centre-back again.
Heung-Min Son is also set to return against his former side having started among the substitutes at the weekend, either in midfield or up front to replace Vincent Janssen. Kyle Walker has been left at home to rest, with Kieran Trippier set to come in at right-back.
Bayer Leverkusen captain Lars Bender missed Saturday's 2-1 defeat to Werder Bremen with flu but has returned to training and could feature on Tuesday night.
