Demetriou hits late winner to leave Royle waiting

Leyton Orient came from behind to secure three precious points in their fight against relegation with a 2-1 win over visiting Oldham. Things started poorly for the hosts, who could have been behind inside the opening 10 seconds as goalkeeper Jamie Jones was forced to scramble the ball off the toes of incoming striker Lewis Alessandra. Oldham, without striker Lee Hughes following his midweek loan move to Blackpool, continued to pose problems for Orient and they were rewarded when Chris Taylor broke away and fellow midfielder Danny Whitaker raced through to score with a rising strike from the edge of the penalty area in the 34th minute. The Os almost levelled early in the second half when substitute striker Dean Morgan shot inches wide, but when he went down under a seemingly innocuous challenge from defender Reuben Hazell on the hour, Scott McGleish converted the resulting penalty to level. The match was then won with six minutes remaining when Charlie Daniels got a second bite at a cross following his corner and midfielder Jason Demetriou fired home via a post.
