    Buchanan the hero for Rovers

A wonderful strike from David Buchanan earned Tranmere a 1-0 win over a Leyton Orient side still looking for their first point.

Defender Buchanan controlled the ball following a clearance by the Orient defence and then drilled a 30-yard shot past startled keeper Lee Butcher to settle a dull encounter. Orient should have taken the lead after 31 minutes when midfielder Jimmy Smith ran onto a free-kick from Charlie Daniels but his tame header was claimed by Rovers keeper Owain Fon Williams at the second attempt. Seven minutes later summer signing Jamie Cureton picked out fellow striker Alex Revell, who drilled his first-time volley wide of the target from 12 yards with only the keeper to beat. Adam McGurk missed the visitors' best first-half opportunity when he raced onto a pass from Robbie Weir but his cross into the penalty area failed to find a colleague. There were few chances in the second half until Buchanan's piece of magic lit up the match.
