Luton's survival hopes suffer another blow

Goals from Adam Stansfield and Liam Sercombe helped promotion-chasing Exeter stretch their unbeaten run to eight games with a 2-1 victory over basement club Luton. The Grecians went in front with the first attack of the game in the fifth minute when Sercombe crossed from the right for Stansfield to head home firmly from six yards for his eighth of the season. Chris Martin fired a 30-yarder off the top of the crossbar for Luton in the ninth minute but the visitors doubled their advantage on the half-hour mark. Keith Keane mistimed his attempt to play offside allowing Alex Russell to run through. Dean Brill saved the midfielder's 10-yard cross-shot but the ball fell into the path of Sercombe to fire into the empty net. The hosts pulled one back six minutes before half-time when Kevin Gallen fed Ian Henderson, who pulled back from the right for Tom Craddock to fire under Paul Jones from 10 yards for his seventh of the campaign. Sam Parkin almost levelled two minutes later but saw his header bounce away off the angle of post and bar after Ed Asafu-Adjaye's cross. Luton struggled to create clear openings in the second period with Keane and substitute Ryan Charles hitting efforts off target at the death.
