Asa Hall's late goal earned Luton a dramatic 2-1 win over relegation rivals Grimsby at Kenilworth Road.

      Hatters keep alive survival hopes

Substitute Asa Hall scored a dramatic 89th-minute winner as bottom club Luton came from behind to beat relegation rivals Grimsby 2-1 and ruin Mike Newell's return to Kenilworth Road. Hall volleyed in his 10th of the season from eight yards after Michael Spillane's cross had fallen into his path to move the Hatters to within 11 points of the visitors and keep alive their faint hopes of beating the drop. Grimsby should have taken the lead inside the first minute when Adrian Forbes ran through onto Robert Atkinson's long ball, but the former Hatter dallied and Lewis Emanuel made a saving tackle. Grimsby went ahead two minutes before half-time when Mark Bower was booked for chopping down Jean-Louis Akpa Akpro and from Nick Hegarty's resulting free-kick from the left, skipper Ryan Bennett rose to loop a header into the top corner from the edge of the penalty area. Three minutes into first-half stoppage-time Luton levelled when Tom Craddock crossed for Bower to nod home, despite Joe Widdowson's attempt to clear on the line. Luton looked to have run out of ideas in a scrappy second period until Hall's late drama sent the home fans into raptures.
