Luton Town 2-1 Leyton Orient: Hatters beat Sky Bet League 2 leaders
Wednesday 2 September 2015 11:34, UK
A last-minute goal from Stephen O'Donnell saw 10-man Luton Town progress into the second round of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy with a 2-1 win over Sky Bet League 2 pacesetters Leyton Orient.
It had looked like the Southern Section tie was going to penalties, only for the right-back to divert Ryan Hall's powerful strike from outside the area into the top corner.
Earlier, the hosts were ahead after 29 minutes when Danny Green arrowed a wonderful angled strike into the top corner.
Town keeper Mark Tyler then made a sharp stop from Ollie Palmer, while Green was denied by a goal-line clearance.
In the second period, both Pelly Ruddock Mpanzu and Olly Lee were off target, before Jonathan Smith failed to direct his header past Colin Grainger.
Orient stepped their game up and were level on 57 minutes as Scott Cuthbert clipped Scott Kashket in the area and Lloyd James made no mistake from the spot.
Tyler was called upon to make a superb low stop from Palmer, while Kashket beat the keeper but not McNulty, who cleared off the line.
Hatters striker Jack Marriott was then sent off with 10 minutes to go, for an off-the-ball incident, but Hatters won it at the death through full-back O'Donnell.
