French leaders march on at Marseille
Montpellier opened a three-point lead at the top of Ligue 1 on Wednesday evening as a double from Younes Belhanda helped the visitors to a 3-1 victory at Marseille.
Stephane Mbia got the home side back on level terms in the 33rd minute after Belhanda had put the visitors ahead with a seventh-minute penalty, but it was only a temporary reprieve for the hosts.
After the break, Olivier Giroud restored the leaders' advantage and Belhanda's second of the match 20 minutes from time sealed the result.
The triumph - in a fixture delayed due to Marseille's presence in the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals - gave Rene Girard's side breathing space over second-placed Paris St Germain with seven games remaining.
