Millwall ran out 4-0 winners against non-league Staines Town in their FA Cup second-round replay.

Lions roar through to take on Derby

Millwall made a safe passage into the third round of the FA Cup thanks to a 4-0 win over Staines Town. Staines - who ply their trade in the Blue Square South - earned a famous 1-1 draw with their League One opponents at Wheatsheaf Park to force the replay. But they came unstuck at The Den and a goal from Steve Morrison just before the interval set Kenny Jackett's side on their way. The hosts doubled their lead early in the second period, Jack Smith capitalising on some poor defending from Howard Newton to slot home, with Alan Dunne adding a third. Danny Schofield scored a fourth to set up a clash with Championship side Derby on 2nd January.

    Under the cosh

The home side dominated possession and bossed the opening 45 minutes, Marc Laird seeing his shot blocked by Gareth Risbridger. Winger Chris Hackett had Millwall's next chance, but he could only curl his shot wide of Louis Wells' goal. Staines were under the cosh but nearly took the lead against the run of play through Leroy Griffiths, who saw his shot turned behind by David Forde. Jackett's men took the lead they needed at a crucial time, scoring through Morison five minutes before half-time. Morrison then turned provider in the second half to set up Millwall's second, the striker stealing the ball off Newton to slip in Smith, who made no mistake with the finish.
    Professional performance
Staines searched for a way back into the match and were left vulnerable to the counter-attack, Morrison nearly grabbing a second on the break after Ashley Grimes had played him in. Town's Richard Butler had the chance to go through on goal for the visitors after turning his man, but the midfielder fell and was booked for diving by referee Pat Miller. Millwall stuck to their task and saw out the remainder of the match to record a comfortable win, Dunne adding gloss to the score line with a headed third. Schofield rounded off a professional performance, smashing a right-foot shot past Wells for a fourth.
