Caretaker boss earns point against league leaders

Andy Scott remains unbeaten as caretaker manager of Brentford as his side earned an away point to upset Milton Keynes Dons' title charge. Scott, who secured a 3-1 win over Wrexham in his first game in charge since replacing former boss Terry Butcher, saw his side take a first-half lead through Alan Connell. However, veteran striker Kevin Gallen pounced with just over 20 minutes remain to leave the Dons grateful for a draw as they stretched their lead to six points over second placed Hereford. Paul Ince's table topping Dons side had started the brightest as Keith Andrews hit a free-kick narrowly wide and Gallen headed over the bar.

Poacher's finish

However, it was Brentford who took the lead against the run of play as Connell fired home on 16 minutes. Brentford then enjoyed the better of the game as the Dons struggled to create an opportunity for an equaliser. After the interval though, the Dons dominated and they deservedly netted their equaliser on 68 minutes when Gallen produced a poacher's finish following a messy goalmouth scramble. Ince introduced two strikers in Jemal Johnson and Drewe Broughton as he went in search of a winner, but it was not to be as Brentford managed to hang on for a point.
