Dons' winless run continues

Oldham moved six points clear of the League One relegation zone with a battling 0-0 draw at MK Dons. Pawel Abbott blew two golden opportunities for the Latics before Jermaine Easter hit the post for the mid-table Dons, who are now winless in seven games. Oldham missed the only clear chance of a dismal first half when an unmarked Abbott headed over Lewis Guy's cross from seven yards. The lacklustre Dons failed to register a shot on target in the opening period and Dean Lewington had their only meaningful attempt when he looped a header over the crossbar from Alex Rae's searching free-kick. Danny Whitaker blasted a 30-yard drive narrowly over the bar for the Latics and the stretching Abbott failed to connect with Lewis Guy's low cross from close range with the net gaping. The Dons improved after the break and Easter fired against the foot of the post from 12 yards before a brave save from keeper Darryl Flahavan denied him at close range. But Oldham defender Reuben Hazell twice went close in the closing stages, blasting just over the bar and then firing straight at keeper Willy Gueret from well-worked Dale Stephens set-pieces.
