Bury started well with Elliott Bennett getting clear after just six minutes only to be denied by home goalkeeper Barry Roche.
The big Irish shot-stopper was once again his side's hero in the second period with a superb early save from Andy Bishop's close-range header before producing a vital block from Glynn Hurst who looked certain to score.
Bennett fired into the side-netting when free on goal again before Bishop did find the target but saw his effort ruled out for offside.
