Van Veldhoven's Roda wrap up comfortable win

NAC Breda continue to look nervously over their shoulder after a 3-0 defeat to Roda JC left them dangerously close to the Eredivisie relegation zone. All three goals arrived in the second half, courtesy of Sanharib Malki, Mitchell Donald and Ruud Vormer, as Harm van Veldhoven's side ran out convincing winners. While impressive, the victory does little for their season as they remain entrenched in mid-table, but defeat could have ramifications for NAC. They head into the weekend six points clear of the drop zone and a win for VVV-Venlo on Saturday would reduce that gap to three. Knowing that, NAC's performance was surprisingly abject. They did start well, with Robbert Schilder drawing a save out of Pawek Kieszek, before Roda had a chance when Malki got through but was denied by Jelle ten Rouwelaar.

    Misery

Tim Gilissen then warmed the palms of Kiesek again, but after that 14th minute effort, the quality dipped and it was not until Anthony Lurling hit wide in first-half injury time that anything of note happened again. All that changed after the break, with Lurling's strike, under pouring rain, hooked off the line by Martijn Monteyne. That proved to be Roda's wake-up call and, with 58 minutes gone, they took the lead. Dave De Beule and Mads Junker linked up and the latter's cross was met by the head of Malki, who did the rest. Nourdin Boukhari could have levelled for the home side halfway through the second period but shot over and was made to pay for it with 15 minutes left. Malki turned provider this time, crossing from the right for substitute Donald who controlled the ball and slotted home first time. NAC were done now - Alex Schalk's poor effort reflecting that - and their misery was completed in injury time when Guss Hupperts fed Vormer, who did the rest.
