Newport County had to come from behind to beat 10-man York City 3-1 at Rodney Parade on Saturday afternoon.
On-loan Sheffield United forward Diego de Girolamo put York in front with a goal on his debut inside the first 10 minutes. But second-half goals from Andrew Hughes, Chris Zebroski and Darren Jones rescued County, after Russ Penn had been sent off for the visitors. Italy under-19 international de Girolamo took advantage of sloppy defending to put York in front with a deflected shot from the edge of the box. County struggled until York captain Penn was sent off for a second bookable offence after a lunge on Lee Minshull early in the second half and his side was punished when Hughes pull level with a low drive five minutes later. Marvin McCoy's gifted the home team a second when his back-pass was picked up by Zebroski, who rounded replacement goalkeeper Jason Mooney. County skipper Jones sealed the win after 72 minutes with a stunning strike into the top corner from 25 yards.
