Watford boss Quique Sanchez Flores says Italian forward Alessandro Diamanti is still not ready for a starting berth after missing pre-season.

Flores' side have scored the fewest Premier League goals this season but the Hornets boss admitted that they are still not ready to call upon the former West Ham player.

Watford travel to fellow promoted side Bournemouth on Saturday but Flores has suggested that Diamanti will start the game on the bench.

The 32-year-old has made two substitute appearances but is yet to start a match after his loan move from Chinese club Guangzhou Evergrande in the summer.

"He is working hard but the physical of Diamanti is not enough for me at the moment," Flores said.

"He didn't do pre-season, which is very important, this age I think it is essential, so in this case with Diamanti I think we have to wait a little more.
