Nottingham Forest boss Dougie Freedman has revealed his attempt to sign Bolton midfielder Liam Trotter on loan has fallen through.
Freedman wanted to raid his former club for the 27-year-old but, like his bid to sign Leicester goalkeeper Ben Hamer earlier this season, the deal is off due to a "technical issue".
"We cannot get a deal over the line so it's dead," Freedman told BBC Radio Nottingham.
"It's a technical issue once again. It's very similar to Ben Hamer.
"I am here to identify players I would like to sign. Hopefully we can sign them. If we don't, I can't get involved too much in what happens behind the scenes.
"I would think we can bring somebody else in but it needs to be a little bit clearer before we can. Before I start making phone calls we need to make sure we can."
