Bolton striker Max Clayton has suffered a serious injury for the second successive season after it was revealed a ruptured hamstring will keep him out for four months.

Last December the 21-year-old's season was ended by a knee injury and the ex-Crewe's man bad luck has continued after it was confirmed he would need surgery.

Clayton was injured during the first half of Bolton's 1-1 draw with Brentford at the Macron Stadium last Monday.

Wanderers, unable to bring in fresh recruits due to their bleak financial situation, were already without Arsenal loanee Wellington Silva and promising forward Zach Clough.

"It's a blow for Max and of course for the squad," boss Neil Lennon said on his club's official website.
