Michael Chopra will put his name forward to become the next manager of Alloa Athletic, Sky sources understand.
The former, Newcastle, Sunderland and Cardiff striker joined Alloa on a short-term deal last season and scored three goals in five matches at the end of the campaign to help the club avoid relegation.
He signed a new deal with the club over the summer and the 31-year-old has now emerged as a potential contender for the vacant managerial position following the departure of Danny Lennon on Monday night.
Alloa are rooted to the bottom of the Scottish Championship after a run of seven straight defeats and are currently six points behind ninth-placed Livingston.
Chopra, who is thought to be keen to continue playing, is understood to have been contemplating moving into coaching since his three-month spell in last year's Indian Super League.
He turned out for the Sachin Tendulkar co-owned Kerala Blasters and helped the Cochin-based outfit - managed last year by former England goalkeeper David James - reach the Indian Super League final, where they were narrowly beaten by Atletico Kolkata.
