Andy Mangan has rejoined Shrewsbury from Tranmere for an undisclosed fee.
The striker only moved to Vanarama National League side Rovers from Town in the summer but has returned to Greenhous Meadow to link up with boss Micky Mellon for a third time.
He previously worked with Mellon at Fleetwood and during his first spell in Shropshire last season.
Mangan scored seven goals in 22 games for Tranmere after netting 10 times in 36 outings for Shrewsbury to help them to promotion from Sky Bet League 2.
The 29-year-old returns as James Collins and Tyrone Barnett were allowed to join Northampton and Southend respectively as Shrewsbury try to free up money in their budget.
