Dundee United have signed Kyle Knoyle from West Ham on a loan deal until the end of the season.

The 19-year-old full-back is drafted in as a direct replacement for Ryan McGowan after the former Hearts defender agreed to return to China with Henan Jianye.

Knoyle will travel to Scotland over the weekend and will be available for selection for the Premiership match against Partick Thistle next Saturday.

"Everything is moving on but the (McGowan) deal is not concluded," said Dundee United manager Mixu Paatelainen.

"As soon as I get a shout that somebody might be moving, I start looking for replacements. We have acted already towards that and will probably act more. Players come and go, we get on with it.

"We have signed Kyle Knoyle on loan from West Ham so we have a replacement already. He's a very bright prospect and a very positive player. He will be ready for next week."

Meanwhile, winger Aidan Connolly has been allowed to leave by mutual consent after making just one first-team start this season, but Paatelainen refused to be drawn on reports midfielder Charlie Telfer would follow him out the door at Tannadice.

"Just rumours, there's nothing in it," added the Finn, whose side are 14 points adrift at the foot of the Scottish Premiership table.
