Southampton midfielder Jason McCarthy has extended his stay with Wycombe until the end of the season, the club have confirmed.

The 20-year-old utility player arrived at Adams Park on loan in October and has been given a deal until the end of the season after impressing in 20 appearances for the Chairboys.

McCarthy, who has played once for the Saints in the Premier League, has been a regular for Gareth Ainsworth's men, playing across the back four and in midfield, while chipping in with two goals.

Ainsworth told the club's official website he was delighted to extend the deal, which had been due to expire at the start of the month.

"Jason has applied himself superbly from day one and is a fantastic person to have around the club, on and off the pitch," he said. "I'm really happy to have extended his loan for the rest of the season and we believe it will help his development as well.
