Hamilton player/manager Martin Canning has broken his cheekbone and is waiting to see if he requires surgery.

The Accies defender suffered the injury when hit by an elbow in a friendly match against Eastleigh last week and missed Saturday's Betfred Cup defeat to Ayr United.

Canning will discover on Wednesday morning if he is to have an operation.

He said: "I got an elbow around 60 minutes and I knew it was a bad one and I played on.

"The next morning I came in and it wasn't getting any better, I was going to play on Saturday in the Betfred Cup and I got an X-ray just to make sure, in case I did it any more damage.
