Martin Paterson has become Port Vale's 16th signing of a busy summer for the Sky Bet League One club.

The Northern Ireland international has put pen to paper after training with Vale after he became a free agent following his exit from Blackpool at the end of last season.

Paterson was a youth player at nearby Stoke, before making his mark at Burnley where he played in the Premier League.

The 29-year-old has made 22 appearances for Northern Ireland, but was not part of their Euro 2016 squad.

Paterson spent a brief spell in the USA last year, when he signed for Orlando City before mutually agreeing to terminate his contract soon after for "personal reasons".
