Watford boss Walter Mazzarri says they need to evaluate whether Troy Deeney is fit to start against Sunderland on Saturday.
The Hornets skipper only returned to training on Monday after having what Mazzarri called a "gastro intestine problem" for a week.
Mazzarri's side also host West Brom on Tuesday and he says he will consult with his medical team to ascertain whether Deeney, who has scored nine Premier League goals this season, is ready to start this weekend.
"Deeney has had a gastro intestine problem," Mazzarri said. "He couldn't train last week and he needs to get in the full condition.
"I am thinking that there are three games in one week. If we ask all the players, they will always reply yes [we are fit] but then it's up to the manager to evaluate. We will evaluate Deeney. I need to see.
"If he doesn't start tomorrow (on Saturday), he will be ready to come from the bench."
Mazzarri also has to evaluate the fitness of Sebastian Prodl, who returned from international duty with Austria with a calf problem.
"It's the same for Prodl. He came from the national team and he will be evaluated," he said. "We want him ready for Tuesday but I will sit with the doctor after training and decide."
