Reading defender John O'Shea will retire at the end of the season.
The former Manchester United player, who turned 38 on Tuesday, will see his playing career come to an end when Reading conclude their Sky Bet Championship campaign with a home game against Birmingham City on Sunday.
United said 'Sheasy' will be "fondly remembered by fans for some magical moments during his illustrious career".
Reading confirmed the news on Twitter: "Just a very small part of his playing days have been spent with the Royals, but he has amassed a medal collection that any player would be extremely proud of, winning almost everything possible during almost 20 years as a professional footballer."
The former Republic of Ireland international O'Shea came through the ranks at United and went on to win five Premier League titles at Old Trafford, as well as the FA Cup, Champions League and two League Cups.
O'Shea ended a 12-year long association with United in 2011 and linked up with former Reds captain Steve Bruce at Sunderland where he spent seven years.
The Black Cats battled to maintain their safety in England's top-flight during several of O'Shea's stay at the Stadium of Light before they were eventually relegated in 2017.
O'Shea remained at the club but his experience could not prevent the club from suffering successive relegations to League One.
A free transfer followed to Reading on a one-year deal last June and he has since made 10 appearances for the Royals in the final season of his playing career.
