Werder captain out for six weeks

Werder Bremen captain Frank Baumann has been ruled out for six weeks with a knee injury. The defender suffered a partial ligament tear during Bremen's 4-1 win over Stuttgart in the Bundesliga at the weekend. Baumann confirmed the extent of the injury and acknowledged it is similar to one that has previously sidelined team-mate Tim Borowski. "It's the same kind of injury that Tim Borowski had before," Baumann told the German media. "I cannot move the leg in the first week, after which I can start a light rehabilitation programme. "I'll probably be out for six weeks." In addition to missing several Bundesliga matches, Baumann is also likely to sit out Bremen's next two UEFA Champions League fixtures. He will be out for the home tie with Olympiakos next week, and the match with Lazio later in October, but could be back in time for the return clash with the Italians on 6th November.
