Hartlepool are retiring Michael Maidens' number 25 shirt as a tribute to the winger.
The 20-year-old Hartlepool player was tragically killed in a car crash last week.
Players and supporters of the League One club paid tribute to Maidens before Saturday's defeat to Brighton.
"I thought the way our fans paid their respects to Michael on Saturday was superb; the perfect tribute," chief executive Russ Green told the club's official website.
"The minute's silence was impeccably observed and it was an incredibly moving tribute to a very special young man.
Never forget
"I'd like to thank all the supporters for turning up at the weekend and helping our football club pay tribute to someone who we will never forget.
"The outpouring of support from fans of other clubs - including Brighton on Saturday - has been awesome.
"Football fans get a lot of bad press but the way people have rallied round in the wake of this tragedy has been very, very touching."
