Midfielder aims to play in a protective mask

Werder Bremen midfielder Frank Baumann could play with a protective mask after breaking his nose against Lazio. Baumann was hurt during the first half of Bremen's 2-1 UEFA Champions League defeat after a collision with Cristian Ledesma. The 32-year-old admits the result in Rome, rather than his injury, is what hurts the most after explaining how his nose was broken. "Several players had missed a cross and I went for some kind of a diving header, but when my head was down really low I was hit by an opponent," Baumann told the German media. "The injury is not nice, but at the moment losing the match to Lazio hurts much more." Baumann has only recently returned to action after a knee injury and hopes he will not miss any further matches, despite breaking his nose. He is exploring the possibility of wearing a protective mask against Karlsruhe in the Bundesliga on Saturday and is expected to be fit for Bremen's next Champions League tie against Real Madrid on 28th November.
