Makinwa brings another option to Gretna

Rock-bottom SPL club Gretna have turned to Nigerian striker Henry Makinwa to fire them out of trouble. Gretna, who are six points adrift at the bottom of the SPL, have signed free agent Makinwa until the end of the season. Makinwa, 30, is an experienced marksman who has previously had spells with Spanish side Rayo Vallecano, Portuguese outfit Vitoria Setubal and Romanian giants Rapid Bucharest. He is currently awaiting international clearance so is unlikely to feature in this weekend's home clash with Hibernian. Gretna boss Davie Irons believes Makinwa will bring something different to his side, who have only managed nine goals in 12 league games so far.

Experienced

Irons said: "Henry is an experienced striker who has got a good pedigree. "He has played at a high level throughout Europe and that will be beneficial to our side." He added: "He's a different type of forward to what we have at the club and will give us another option. "He holds the ball up well and has a good touch. He will bring more players into the game and allow more people to get forward, which is something we need to do."
