Veteran defender cracks rib in victory over Brentford
Macclesfield Town skipper Richard Edghill is out until the New Year after cracking a rib.
The veteran defender sustained the injury in Tuesday's 1-0 League Two victory over Brentford, where he was substituted in the 73rd minute.
The injury is a big blow for Macclesfield boss Ian Brightwell, who rates Edghill as a key player after his move from Bradford in July.
Bad news
Brightwell told the Manchester Evening News: "It's bad news for us and obviously for Richard, who has been a key player and a man we can ill afford to lose, especially with our lack of numbers at the back.
"He will, however, come back and come back even stronger."
Brightwell could also be without another defender - Jimmy McNulty - for the FA Cup first round tie at Rushden on Saturday after he went off at half time in Tuesday's game.
"He had an exceptional first half but then had to come off," said Brightwell. "He may be OK for Saturday but if not, we could be really short."
Experienced
The Macclesfield boss is currently on the lookout to bring in experienced defenders on loan.
He added: "I have got my tabs on a couple of players and, hopefully, I will be able to bring them in before the game at Rushden on Saturday.
"There are complications because it is an FA Cup tie but I have my fingers crossed that I will get the men I want."
On a more positive note, he was able to sign young Blackpool defender Phil Doughty on loan on Wednesday until 9th December.
