Domi not heading to Wigan

Steve Bruce has denied speculation linking him with a transfer window move for Didier Domi.

Latics not interested in French full-back

Wigan boss Steve Bruce has denied speculation linking him with a transfer window move for Didier Domi. Chairman Dave Whelan is ready to back his manager with the funds he requires in January, and Bruce has highlighted the need for a left-back. Wigan sold Leighton Baines to Everton in the summer and have not managed to fill the void which has been left. Kevin Kilbane, who is more of a left winger, filled in at the back against Manchester City on Saturday but a long-term solution is needed. French full-back Domi has had previous spells in England with Newcastle and Leeds and is currently with Greek champions Olympiakos, but Bruce has denied that the player is a target for the club. "We are looking to bring a left-back in but there is nothing in that name," Bruce told the Wigan Evening Post.

Melchiot

Bruce also said that they would not be appealing against Mario Melchiot's red card against Manchester City. "We looked at it briefly but I think the rules are pretty straight forward now, and we'll just have to take our medicine. "Mario was never going to intentionally hurt the boy, but it is a disappointment because he misses three very important games."
Heskey
The new Latics boss is hopeful that he should be able to call on the services of Emile Heskey for Sunday's crunch match at Bolton, after the England striker limped out of the draw with Manchester City. "I think Emile has an outstanding chance of playing at Bolton and hopefully he will be okay. "It was a worry when he came off against City, but he was always only going to last an hour or so because of the amount of time he has been out. "The hamstring was a bit tight, but it doesn't seem to have got any worse so he should be ready. "Bolton is a huge game and it would be great to have Emile involved."
Confident
Heskey returned the compliment by telling reporters that he believes Bruce has the experience to lead the club to Premier League survival. Wigan currently sit second bottom, two points adrift of safety, but Heskey who also played for Bruce at Birmingham, has been impressed by the impact the new manager has had. "He's a confident manager," the striker said. "He's dealt with relegation dogfights before so hopefully we can scrape through. "He's made a few changes, every coach has his own training methods and the lads have taken to it well. "Confidence was at a low, as it would be with any team after losing eight in a row, but him coming in and bringing his ideas have just perked everyone up. We're confident we can do it."
