Nathan Dyer could be out for up to three months after injuring his ankle against Leicester.

The Southampton midfielder was on the receiving end of a robust challenge from Richard Stearman during the 2-1 victory over the Foxes on 1st December, and has already missed his sides last two games with the problem.

An initial scan has shown damage to a tendon behind an ankle and could require surgery. If the problem does prove to be as bad as first thought then the winger will be facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines and may not feature again until well into the New Year.

Dyer is due to see another specialist on Friday to get a second opinion on the severity of the injury and to discuss any alternatives to surgery, but both the player and his club are not expecting to receive good news.

Back in contention

Better news for boss George Burley is that Darren Powell, Wayne Thomas and Jhon Viafara should all be available for Saturday's trip to Coventry, as the Saints look to build on their impressive 4-0 demolition of Hull in their last Championship outing.
